Research context

Melanotan I (afamelanotide) is a synthetic tridecapeptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), carrying norleucine and D-phenylalanine substitutions ([Nle4, D-Phe7]-alpha-MSH) that increase metabolic stability relative to the native hormone. It belongs to the melanocortin-agonist peptide class. In vitro and animal models describe it as an agonist ligand at melanocortin receptors, with reported selectivity toward MC1R.
