Research context

AHK-Cu is a copper(II) complex of the synthetic tripeptide alanyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (Ala-His-Lys), also designated Copper tripeptide-3. Like related copper-binding peptides, it coordinates a single divalent copper ion via the histidine imidazole and backbone nitrogen donors. In vitro and in animal models it has been described within the copper-peptide chemical class as a copper-chelating tripeptide ligand.

Research in isolated dermal-cell cultures and rodent follicle models has examined AHK-Cu in the context of dermal papilla cell proliferation, extracellular-matrix protein deposition, and copper-dependent signaling pathways. Analytical characterization has relied on reversed-phase HPLC purity assays, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopic confirmation of the copper-complex identity and stoichiometry.
