Research context

Epithalon (Epitalon, AEDG) is a synthetic linear tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, modeled on the pineal polypeptide epithalamin. It is a short, unmodified regulatory peptide belonging to the peptide-bioregulator chemical class. In vitro and animal models describe it as a putative telomerase- and gene-expression-interacting peptide.

Research in isolated cell cultures and rodent models has examined epithalon in relation to telomerase enzymatic activity, telomere length dynamics, and pineal/neuroendocrine gene-expression pathways. Analytical characterization has employed reversed-phase HPLC and mass spectrometry to confirm the four-residue sequence, net composition, and purity of preparations.
