Research context

BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids, sequence Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val) derived from a partial sequence of a protein identified in gastric juice. In vitro and in animal models, it has been characterized as a stable peptide whose reported activity in the literature is associated with modulation of angiogenic signaling and interaction with growth-factor and nitric-oxide pathways.

Reported research in isolated cell systems and rodent models has examined its influence on pathways such as VEGFR2 signaling, nitric-oxide (NO) synthesis, and FAK-paxillin-related cell-migration cascades, as well as its effects on fibroblast and endothelial cell behavior. Analytical characterization of the peptide is commonly performed by reversed-phase HPLC for purity assessment and by mass spectrometry (MS) for molecular-weight confirmation.
