Research context

Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide (Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) classified as a growth hormone secretagogue. In vitro and in animal models it has been studied as a selective agonist of the ghrelin/growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), a G-protein-coupled receptor.

Research in isolated pituitary cells and rodent models has examined its receptor binding selectivity and the downstream phospholipase C and intracellular calcium signaling cascade associated with GHS-R1a activation. The peptide has been characterized analytically by reversed-phase HPLC and mass spectrometry.
