Research context

Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) is an endogenous nonapeptide with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, originally isolated from cerebral venous blood. In vitro and in animal models it has been studied as a neuromodulatory peptide with reported interactions across several neurotransmitter and neuroendocrine systems. A specific dedicated receptor has not been definitively characterized in the literature.

Research in isolated cell and rodent models has examined effects on sleep-related electrophysiology (EEG) patterns, modulation of glutamatergic and opioidergic signaling, and oxidative-stress and neuroendocrine markers in tissue preparations. Analytical characterization has used HPLC and mass spectrometry to confirm the peptide’s identity, sequence, and purity.
